The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the much-awaited Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026 Notification on 21st May 2026, inviting applications for approximately 12,256 vacancies across various prestigious Group B and Group C posts in Central Government Ministries and Departments.
- Total Vacancies: 12,256 posts including Assistant Section Officer, Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector (Central Excise), Assistant Enforcement Officer, Sub-Inspector in CBI, Junior Statistical Officer, Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant, and Upper Division Clerk among others.
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent is required for most posts. Specific post-wise educational requirements are detailed in the official notification.
- Age Limit: 18 to 32 years as on 1st August 2026 (with age relaxation applicable for reserved categories as per Government rules).
- Selection Process: The examination will be conducted in two tiers — Tier-I (Objective) and Tier-II (Objective + Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test where applicable), followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination.
- Important Dates: Online applications open from 21 May 2026 to 22 June 2026. Last date for fee payment is 23 June 2026. Application correction window: 29 June to 1 July 2026. Tier-I exam tentatively scheduled for August–September 2026.
- Application Fee: ₹100 for General and OBC candidates. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from fee payment.
- How to Apply: Candidates must apply online only through the official SSC website (ssc.gov.in). One-time registration is mandatory before filling the application form.
- Salary & Pay Level: Posts are placed in Pay Level 4 to Pay Level 8 of the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix (₹25,500 to ₹1,51,100 basic pay plus allowances).
- Exam Pattern Update: Tier-I consists of 100 questions (200 marks) with negative marking of 0.5 marks. Tier-II has two papers with specific patterns for different posts.
