What happened
World Heart Day is observed every year on 29 September. The 2026 global campaign theme associated with the World Heart Federation is “Don’t Miss a Beat”, focusing on recognising cardiovascular disease (CVD) symptoms early and protecting heart health across the life course.
CVD remains the leading cause of death globally. India faces a dual burden of ischaemic heart disease and stroke, driven by hypertension, diabetes, tobacco, unhealthy diets and air pollution. National programmes such as the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) and Ayushman Bharat health-and-wellness centres are key domestic levers.
