What happened

On 25 September 2026, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) launched the Digital Connectivity Rating (DCR) Platform. It is a single online system where properties are rated for digital connectivity. It comes with a mobile app that registered Digital Connectivity Rating Agencies (DCRAs) will use to measure in-building connectivity.

Property Managers can register public, government, commercial or private buildings, pick a registered DCRA and track their applications. Consumers can search rated properties by name, certificate ID or location and check the digitally signed certificate through a QR code. The platform supports eSign, online fee payment and SMS/email alerts.

Background

The platform puts into practice the TRAI (Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity) Regulations, 2024, as amended on 13 May 2026, and the Rating Manual 2026 issued on 9 June 2026. It covers both finished and under-construction buildings. TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said it gives buyers and tenants a transparent, standard way to judge connectivity before they buy or lease.

Why it matters for exams

Telecom regulation, TRAI's role and consumer-centric digital initiatives are common in banking, SSC and UPSC GS-III questions. Knowing the regulation year and the DCRA concept helps with statement-based MCQs.
