Why 28–30 September mattered
Public sector and many old private banks were staring at a UFBU strike overlapping half-yearly closing (30 September). After the IBA–UFBU understanding on 27 September night, the strike was deferred, reducing risk to salary credits, clearing and treasury operations.
Earlier, the Finance Ministry and RBI had approved Sunday banking on 27 September for PSBs and RRBs so that a weekend plus strike would not create a multi-day service gap.
Terms to revise
- Currency Chest; ATM-link branch
- IBA vs UFBU roles
- Half-yearly vs annual closing (31 March)
- NEFT / RTGS / UPI continuity expectations for customers
Operationally, half-yearly closing involves reconciliation, provisioning, treasury and market activities. A strike on those dates can delay salary credits and cheque clearing. With the strike deferred, customers and bank-exam aspirants should still track any residual local branch advisories from individual banks.
